Family Friendly Hike With Some of the Most Stunning Views in the White Mountains

Mount Willard is a family friendly hike that will share with you some of the most stunning views in the White Mountains. The 1.6-mile trail (3.2mi there & back) leads to the summit at 2,865 feet above sea level, offering amazing views of Crawford Notch.

Start right behind the Crawford Notch Train Station. You will not see a sign, but you will see a path leading into the woods. Once in the woods you will see two trail signs, Mt. Willard’s sign has an arrow pointing to the left.

Early into the hike you will do a little rock hopping to cross over a brook. It’s not all that difficult. As you hike to the summit, you will experience a gradual and consistent climb under thick tree coverage keeping you out of the sun. About 1/3 of the way up the trail, you will hear water running. Take the short trail to Centennial Pool and enjoy the beauty of the small waterfall.

Eventually you will come out of the trees and onto the ledge …and say WOW! Thereafter while enjoying the views of the summit, you will hear the Word WOW – in many different languages.

The summit of Mt. Willard is a great place to bring a small picnic lunch with you, but if you prefer to descend and find a good place for a meal, I choose Stickney’s Restaurant at the Mt. Washington Hotel. Beautiful views of the southern presidentials on their veranda. Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Get Outside and Enjoy your Day!
